# Conversion - Redeeming

GRAIL and xGRAIL are mutually convertible into each other, but the process is different depending on the direction.

### GRAIL > xGRAIL conversion

GRAIL can be freely converted into xGRAIL at any time. The process is instant, and the ratio is 1:1.

[Get xGRAIL](/get-started/castle-tutorials/utilize-xgrail/get-xgrail.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

### xGRAIL > GRAIL redeem

The redemption process to convert xGRAIL to GRAIL implies vesting, the duration of which is selected by the user. The conversion ratio will increase proportionally with the vesting duration:

* The minimum vesting duration of 15 days will provide a 1:0.5 ratio
* The maximum vesting duration of 6 months will provide a 1:1 ratio

{% hint style="success" %}
If the selected vesting duration is lower than the maximum (ratio < 1:1), the unclaimed excess GRAIL is burned
{% endhint %}

### Real Yield Staking plugin allocation

While being redeemed, the xGRAIL is automatically allocated to the [yield staking plugin](/protocol/xgrail-plugins/real-yield-staking.md), but **only for 50% of its value**.

{% hint style="info" %}
For instance, if a user was to redeem 1000 xGRAIL, he would earn staking rewards as if he actually allocated 500 of them to the real yield staking plugin.
{% endhint %}

### **Cancel redeem**

Any xGRAIL redeeming process can be freely interrupted at any time by the user.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Any cancelled redeem before its end will void the whole process. User will retrieve its entire amount of redeeming xGRAIL, and no GRAIL.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.camelot.exchange/tokenomics/xgrail-token/conversion-redeeming.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
